[cc]mymTw[/cc]: Hi Livia, now, coming close to the end of the „Home of Chrome“-project, let’s have a short look at the beginning of it. When was the idea adressed to you by VIA and why did they choose g0d to be in the project? [pp]Liefje[/pp]: It was us, the girlz 0f destruction that actually brought the idea to VIA. It had been our dream to live in a gaming house together and initially we were just going to live together in a small apartment. Then VIA came in and offered their sponsorship and assistance with getting a larger house that we could use for an e-sports training facility. [cc]mymTw[/cc]: So the original idea from g0d was picked up by VIA very fast. Now that the dream of almost every gamer could have come true for you, did you think of losing contact to your relatives or friends at home, or where you just all excited to start things off as soon as possible? [pp]Liefje[/pp]: We were all very excited to move in to the gaming house. Each girl knew they would not have much contact with their family (especially the three of us that didn't originally live in Sweden) and came prepared for that. Most of us were already living away from home and so it didn't make much difference. I kind of moved to Sweden by accident so that thought didn't really cross my mind when I left. Some of my friends were very mad with me for moving here without saying a „real“ goodbye. [cc]mymTw[/cc]: You moved to Sweden by accident? Ok, now that you mentioned it, you have to explain it to our readers. [pp]Liefje[/pp]: My original plan was to come to Sweden for 10 days for the DreamHack Winter 2005 event. During the event I met a boy (laughs) and when it was time to go back home I was actually very sick with the flu (damn Swedish winter) so I extended my ticket so I could recover for a little while. This boy and I were getting along great and before I knew it, the idea of the gaming house had been made a reality and so I never actually went back to New Zealand to say a real goodbye! I'm bad with saying goodbye's anyway so it worked out OK for me. [cc]mymTw[/cc]: Well, sounds like a pretty nice „accident“ then. Coming back to the gaming house. When was the idea of having a „bootcamp“-like facility, with optimal training conditions, for gamers from all over the world born. Since it sounds like you were originally only planning in improving g0ds training conditions. [pp]Liefje[/pp]: The idea came around when VIA offered their financial support with the house. With this we were able to get a bigger house and more equipment. Having met so many wonderful gamers we decided it would be nice to be able to offer a place for them to train, so we opened our doors to the gamers as an e-sports training facility. [cc]mymTw[/cc]: Alright, great. Also, not only having a new training facility, you all were sent to many major eSport-events in 2006. At which event did you have the most fun and which one was the most exciting for you? [pp]Liefje[/pp]: (laughs) That's a really tough question, all events have been fun! I guess the one that really stuck out for me was Quakecon. There was not only professional players but casual players too and everyone just ended up having a great time. The most exciting event for me was ESWC. With all the people there representing their nation it was really nice to see the gamers uniting with players in different games just because they are all representing the same country. Our team was playing Counter-Strike for the first time and it was a new experience for all of us. I really hope to be able to attend another ESWC! [cc]mymTw[/cc]: That all sounds like a lot of fun – have there ever been times when you or any of the other girls got tired of all the travelling or doing marketing for VIA, since most people might think of it as the best job in the world, but I would think it was really hard work, to be honest. [pp]Liefje[/pp]: It was quite hard to be travelling all the time. During the summer we were away so much we didn't even get to experience the Swedish summer! Sometimes I did just want a break to relax at home and just spend time with my boyfriend or play games. Doing the marketing was never bad, we always had fun with it. [cc]mymTw[/cc]: Though you all knew yourself before moving into this house, I think the relationship got much closer during this year. Are there any plans of realizing a project like this in the future again, maybe in another place? [pp]Liefje[/pp]: I would love to continue the project and right now we are actively seeking new sponsors to perhaps continue in a new house. We are all very sad to be leaving each other as we all got along great and we also miss having the gamers visit us. [cc]mymTw[/cc]: So we will most likely never see the chromey hats again, but maybe a different colour would fit aswell. I read that Missy and Trito will move back to their homes in California and Sweden again, but Ms.X and you are curious about what you do. There aren’t any plans in your heads right now? [pp]Liefje[/pp]: Right now we haven't got concrete plans on where to go but we will most likely stay in Europe. I myself will either go to the Netherlands or perhaps the UK. Ms.X is also looking to move back to the UK. Everything is still undecided for me, I might even end up going back to New Zealand if I am unable to find work. Staying in Sweden is also a possible option for me, although it is very difficult to find a job here. [cc]mymTw[/cc]: Alright, so we hope it will all work out properly for you. One final question about the house itself. What happens to the „Home of Chrome“ now? I mean, the house itself was rented, but what about all the furniture and stuff. Do you get fans emailing you, asking for „fanboy“-stuff? [pp]Liefje[/pp]: (laughs) No we haven't had any emails like that yet :) . The furniture will be sold and we are also looking to sell some of the gaming equipment. [cc]mymTw[/cc]: Ok, last round of the Interview – short questions, short answers: Sweden or New Zealand? [pp]Liefje[/pp]: Sweden [cc]mymTw[/cc]: Unreal Tournament or Quake? [pp]Liefje[/pp]: Unreal Tournament (laughs) [cc]mymTw[/cc]: QuakeCon or ESWC? [pp]Liefje[/pp]: ESWC [cc]mymTw[/cc]: toxic or cooller? [pp]Liefje[/pp]: ooh thats tough ... toxic! [cc]mymTw[/cc]: Well, not only the „Home of Chrome“ is coming to an end, so is this interview. We really appreciate taking your time and hope to see you around later on. Now you might shout out some greetings. [pp]Liefje[/pp]: Thanks! I just want to say thank you VIA for a wonderful year and thanks to all the gamers that were able to make it to the house. I wish all the girls the best of luck in the future!
