„No pictures today, I need to practice“, Manuel ‘Grubby‘
Schenkhuizen is certain to use the remaining time until the final to
adjust his game play for the ‘Fifth Race’ – Jang ‘Moon’ JaeHo. Grubby
was too long the player with the shiny history and the problems in the
present. He wants to be the best again. He wants to be the World
Champion again.
Yesterday night he spent some time with his
family. Additionally to Cassandra – who is supporting him all week –
now also his mother, brother and his girlfriend are here to cheer for
him. They created a huge poster with a huge “Grubby” on it and wait for
hours to see him playing. It was worth it.
On the other side you got Jang ‘Moon’ JaeHo - the impersonated God of WarCraft, who won everything. Everything? No, there is one title missing in his showcase. He never won the World Cyber Games and he desperately wants to change that. After his quarter-final-victory he ran out of the venue and called home. He was smiling for minutes and was happy to just talk about the last couple of minutes on stage.
For the Clan behind those players stands Mark Peter ‘Mercy’
Fries. He is the manager, boss and friend of the players and was the
happiest guy in the hall besides them both. “I was waiting for eight
years for this moment”, are his words after the stunning 2-0 victory
from Grubby on stage. There is always a lot at stake for somebody like
him at events like that. He wants his team to be the best in the world
and to be recognized as the best he needs titles and medals.
Today
nobody will disagree with the fact that MeetYourMakers got the best
WarCraft-team in the world. Not beaten by the arch-rival SK Gaming or
the Chinese powerhouse World Elite. They got a nice seat in the
audience. The spot on the stage is reserved for the players of MYM.
In
the end it will be a victory for both players and they can celebrate a
great tournament, but right now it’s about the chance to write history.
Both want to become World Champions and that’s why there are no smiles,
no hugs and no nice chats for the next two hours. The teammates are
opponents for just one game.
